It all started with paper.  In 1974, Modern was born under the name of Modern Paper Co., primarily selling paper for copy machines.  Shawn Stearns, our current owner, was one of Modern Paper’s original members.  He began with the company in the early 80’s and soon introduced the Mita line of copiers to our Southern Illinois customers.   At this time, Modern was no longer just a paper expert and Modern Copier, Inc. was born.  As Modern Copier, we specialized in all things equipment.  From copiers to printers, duplicators to shredders, fax machines to color copiers, we had it all.  Or so we thought.  Shawn purchased Data Business Systems and then MC Electronics, a local cash register company, but it didn’t end there.  In 2005, Modern became a furniture and supply specialist.  At this point, we truly became a one-stop-shop for our Southern Illinois customers.  In 2010, we realized it was time for the next big change, the name change.  At the beginning of 2011, we became Modern Office Connections to better portray our true meaning.  The days of being just a copier company were long gone. 

Today, celebrating over 37 years of business, Shawn is proud to say he is still the same owner, with the same store front, and the same goals.  He feels lucky to be one of the only Locally Owned, Business Solutions company’s left.  He basically grew up with Modern, and after having his daughter join him and his team in 2007, he considers his MOC team his family. 

Our focus at MOC is in Business Solutions, but our passion is our Local Relationships.  Our team is proud to serve our hometown community and we value the partnerships we have made over the years.  We are proud of the road we have traveled to get to where we are today and look forward to the journey ahead.
